Rodger King

Rodger grew up in Southeast Oklahoma near Talihina. He is the youngest of two boys. Rodger put his faith in Christ at the age of 7. Baptism came a couple weeks later in the neighbor’s swimming pool.  He and his family attended Falfa Baptist Church where Rodger learned that ministry was something that every church member was involved in. As a teenager Rodger worked at Kiamichi Baptist Assembly where he continued to learn that ministry is a “character building experience”. It was during his time working at Kiamichi Baptist Assembly that he realized God was calling him into ministry. At the age of 16, Rodger surrendered to the call of ministry and was licensed by Falfa Baptist Church. Rodger lead worship at Falfa and gained preaching experience in local churches until he graduated high school.

After graduating from Buffalo Valley High School he didn’t sense a call to a specific type of ministry, so he decided to follow his love for computers and technology into the Computer Tech program at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, OK.  Rodger graduated from EOSC with an Associate degree in computer technology.

Rodger met Kelli Harkey, the young lady that would eventually be his wife, while working at KBA, but they would not date until his second semester at EOSC. In 2000 after he had graduated from EOSC and Kelli had finished her Bachelor degree at SEOC, Kelli moved to Tulsa. It wasn’t long until he followed, taking a job doing tech support for Netscape web browser. Rodger and Kelli would marry in November of 2000. They found their church home at Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church soon after.  Rodger and Kelli have two amazing daughters, Sydney and Jada.

Rodger has found many opportunities to do ministry at SHBC including teaching youth & children, teamkid, and computer classes. In 2002, he became part of the media team that he would eventually lead. In 2004, Rodger was ordained Deacon. In recent years, Rodger has been given a new desire to do a different kind of ministry. “Love my people” is the new directive he has been given by the Father. He seeks to fulfill that call as bivocational Associate Pastor here at SHBC.

In addition to his responsibilities at SHBC, Rodger leads a team of six customer service representatives at EasyWorship Presentation Software, where he has been employed since 2005.
